PENTHOUSE POURING DISASTER
The owner and resident of a gorgeous penthouse apartment in Manchester was away for a few days when the boiler system leaked hot water through the cupboard, into the kitchen, hallway and the lounge and dining area.
THE PROBLEM
The owner and resident, Paula Monaghan, of this gorgeous penthouse apartment in Manchester was away for a few days when the boiler system leaked hot water through the cupboard, into the kitchen, hallway and the lounge and dining area.
The property owner only became aware of the leak when she came back, and the building concierge told her that her neighbours suffered water damage to their property as well. As water damage is progressive, the water got underneath the solid wood flooring in the living areas, and soaked through the floor and leaked to other flats.
THE SOLUTION
Once all the contents had been taken into storage, our team started by making sure the electrics were safe, then taking up the existing wood flooring, removing the kitchen, taking up the floor tiles and the damaged plasterboard, taking down some of the ceilings, removing internal doors and getting the property ready for our partners at Restore Fire & Floor to install drying equipment.
The team faced a challenge with this job as access to the property was pedestrianised, parking was limited, we weren’t allowed a skip on the premises and the lift would not take bulky materials! We had to get our planning heads on and our walking boots out (steel toe-capped of course) to walk up and down 13 flights of stairs with the timbers. Silver lining – it certainly kept the team fit!
Once the property had dried out the team started putting in a new wooden flooring throughout, laid in a contemporary herringbone pattern, installed a new kitchen with both Quartz and acrylic work surfaces, re-did the plastering, plumbing and electrical work, and completed full redecorations throughout.
WHY CHOOSE ACTION INSURANCE REPAIR
Like many other business owners, Paula was too busy looking after her own clients to deal with an insurance claim and the repairs that were to follow at her own property. Plus, as she’s spent most of her time in the Costa Del Sol for the last 10 years running her business, she didn’t have any contacts in the UK who could carry out the work, nor did she have the time to organise and oversee the repairs.
Action insurance Repair allowed Paula to get the repairs done to the highest standard, without her having to keep travelling back to the UK and spend countless hours managing the project. Joanne and her team liaised with Paula throughout the process ensuring she was happy with the end result.
GOING THE EXTRA MILE
Joanne founded AIR because she believed she could help people during some of the most stressful situations. Combine our unwavering enthusiasm for customer service with Joanne’s penchant for interior design, and the result is another happy client – and a stunning new penthouse!
