Recently, we had the opportunity to deliver an insurance repairs training session to the lettings team over at Your Move, and we came away with some valuable insight into the challenges agents face, and the role we can play in supporting them.
A gap in knowledge, and a real opportunity...
Before the session, confidence levels were noticeably low:
- 83% of attendees described themselves as having limited knowledge of the insurance repairs process
- 50% said they were only slightly confident in knowing what to do if a major claim was reported
These stats reinforced something we often see in practice: when property damage occurs, letting agents are often put in a position where they’re expected to guide landlords, without always having the knowledge or tools to do so confidently.
After the session, the change was clear...
- 100% of attendees left feeling at least moderately confident in knowing how to guide a landlord reporting major property damage
- 33% rated themselves as “very confident”, compared to none before the training took place
Even the attendee who came into the room with no prior knowledge of how to handle reports of major damage reported increased confidence at the end of the session.
The training's true value
When asked about the parts of the training that stood out the most, a few key themes emerged as attendees gained:
- A clearer understanding of what types of claims are covered, especially for damage caused by damp and mould
- Greater confidence in how and when to refer cases
- Recognition that working with an insurance repair specialist such as ourselves can benefit the agent as much as the landlord
