Row of beautiful english houses

Your Christmas guests are arriving – is your house ready?

The festive season can be a busy time and, if you’re like most people, you’ll probably have a to-do list as long as your arm to tick off before the 25th December rolls around.

If you’re expecting guests over the Christmas period, it’s important to make sure you have enough space and storage ahead of time. To help you make the most of the space you have available, we’ve put together our favourite tips and recommendations to help you get your home ready ahead of the Christmas rush!

Clear out the clutter

Christmas brings a lot of things with it, from the tree to the presents, so adding them to an already cluttered space can make your house feel cramped and crowded. Make space for those anticipated presents before they arrive by clearing out some of the things you don’t need, donating things to charity, and storing things you’d like to keep but don’t have room for.

Make the most of all the dead space

You should find dead space from your house and utilize it for the smart home storage! You can most likely squeeze a narrow drawer into that space for your dry goods storage.

PullOut Kitchen Cupboard

Odd spaces, like small recessed areas, or the space under a bank of windows, are great places to add shelves and cubbies. Shelving up by the ceiling hung around the perimeter of the room is a great way to squeeze in extra storage space while keeping items out of view!

Install pull out storage

An unused gap in the kitchen next to the fridge (or any other free-standing appliance) is an ideal spot for a pull-out cupboard; easily made out of MDF with wheels fixed to the bottom and it will become a great place to store cookbooks, crockery, herbs and spices etc.

Alternatively, out the space above your fridge and wall cabinets to good use.  Either open storage or aesthetically pleasant storage boxes or contemporary wire bins can look great and be so practical.

Don’t forget under the stairs space!

Stair Storage

You can use the space below the stairs, which is often wasted in most houses as a storage space by adding vertical drawers/ pull-outs or simply having shutters for storing your necessary things. Stair riser’s (if it is made of wood or metal) can also be used for storing toys, books, linens, files etc. This also gives a unique look to your interior!

Rethink your property’s layout
