RESULTS OF OUR SURVEY ARE IN...
We recently ran a short survey to get a better understanding of what insurance brokers and letting agents go through when a property you manage or insure suffers sudden, serious damage. Whether it's a storm, a fire, or an unexpected leak, we wanted to know: what really happens behind the scenes?
Thank you to everyone who took a few minutes to respond—we know how busy you all are. We promoted the survey on LinkedIn and sent it out via email, and to make things a bit more fun, we included a prize draw for a £100 restaurant gift card. Big congratulations to Joanne Hardman from Miller Metcalfe in Bolton, who chose The Black Friar in Manchester as her spot!

We asked six crucial questions about how professionals handle situations where your clients or landlords suffer sudden, extensive property damage. We had the most responses from Brokers but were pleased to hear some strong opinions from Lettings teams, too! Here’s what you told us:
Not surprisingly, considering recent years, storm damage came out on top as the most common cause of claims, followed by fire and water leaks. But the real insight came when we asked about the challenges you face.
A huge 89.5% of brokers said the most frustrating part of the process is when claims go wrong — due to underinsurance, poor service from insurers, or simply you or your clients being left in the dark.
Another big issue? 31.6% pointed to the subpar quality of work from contractors sent in by insurance companies. That’s a frustration we hear often, and it’s exactly where Action Insurance Repair steps in to make a difference, with our reputation for quality workmanship, transparent and efficient communication and a personal service. These shouldn’t be so hard to find, but they continue to set us apart in the industry!
Letting agents offered some strong insights too, with a whopping 80% saying they’d had to deal with fire damage at a managed property! And when landlords are left to manage claims on their own? 60% of respondents said communication breaks down, delays happen and can result in landlords moving their properties to other management companies. That’s lost time — and potentially lost business for you.
One letting agent mentioned that most of their landlords aren’t local to their investment properties, meaning they end up coordinating the repairs — definitely not part of the usual job description!
